Watching the constant news stream of negative stories can be exhausting and depressing. It causes stress, anxiety and anger, and it is often hard to know how or what to do amidst so many problems.
This retreat is an opportunity to disconnect from social media and the news cycle, giving our minds and bodies a break. The focus of this retreat will be on how to revolutionize our lives and the lives of others through kindness, compassion and connection. Alongside yoga practice and yoga philosophy workshops on this topic, we will also practice breathwork and meditation, journal, swim and enjoy healthy food. We will unwind, de-stress and recover from the day-to-day negativity to which we are often subjected and relearn how to see the beauty in our world.
Although it might seem self-indulgent to focus inwards when there is so much suffering in the world, our inner relationship with ourselves is important in the process of building a better reality. “We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves” (Dalai Lama). Many of us are self-critical, put ourselves down and have little patience or compassion for ourselves. Sometimes, this can affect the way we treat others. We will work on uncovering these negative patterns and changing our internal dialogue about ourselves and others.
Instead of feeding into hate and divisiveness, the philosophy of yoga encourages us to take action from a place of love and kindness. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr). During this retreat we will consider how to channel our anger, frustration and sense of injustice into positive action.
Over this weekend, treat yourself to some introspective exploration and growth and learn how to give back to yourself and others in a way that makes living joyful and more worthwhile.
