I took my first yoga class over 25 years ago but giggled my way through that class and rewarded myself with a pint of beer at the pub when it was over! My practice became more serious a few years later as I found that going to yoga was a great way to form a new community in each new place that I lived: from London to Beijing, from Los Angeles to Austin, TX and most recently from Colorado Springs to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
My husband and later my son heavily encouraged my yoga journey as they found that I was much less grumpy and irritable after yoga classes. Over time, I have incorporated meditation, breath work, the yoga poses and yoga philosophy into my life both on and off the mat to such an extent that both my physical body and my mental outlook have changed. I am (mostly!) no longer a stressed out, hunched over, negative, argumentative person with chronic back pain.
I strongly believe that yoga is for everyone, regardless of age, health or flexibility. I teach class with humor and playfulness, and I aim to make all students feel welcome and at ease in a supportive, safe space. For me, yoga is about connecting people with their bodies and breath in order to quiet the noise and distractions that often accompany our hectic lives. Ultimately, I think that yoga allows us to find contentment and satisfaction, making it easier to navigate life’s challenges.
I hold the following certifications: MA in Asian Studies from UC Berkeley, Yoga Alliance 200 RYT from Pranava Yoga Center, Y12SR (addiction recovery yoga) with Nikki Myers, breathwork teacher training with Jon Paul Crimi. I have also attended multiple trainings, including on trauma, resilience, self regulation, parenting, inner-child work, psychology, social justice, meditation and mindfulness. I am grateful to all my teachers over the years for all their wisdom and guidance.
